FAQ
The Nitty Gritty
While this question is highly dependent on the scale and type of project, CFD aims to have a materials to labor ratio of 1:2 - so if the materials cost $250, labor would be $500 and the job would cost $750. This ratio is flexible for the level of craftsmanship required, for instance if you needed us to hand-engrave something in a $20 block of wood the cost would likely be more than $60 ;) For the care, precision, flexibility, and overall dedication we pour into each project this is a killer deal. In fact, CFD has ZERO unsatisfied client alumni - something we are very proud of - and over half of our compleated projects have been returning clients. All of that said, we are not always the cheapest option, we like a quality final product and prefer to work with higher-end materials, if you're looking for quick and dirty we'll be the first to tell you we're not the team for you. Finally, we don't work at an hourly rate, we define a clear scope for the project and then bid it all as one job - if you're looking for hourly labor we are also not the right team for you.
No, most of the work we do falls under the legal limitations of California Assembly Bill 2622 for unlicensed work, or the project surrounds movable personal property, not permanently attatched 'real' property which according to California legislature does not require a license - think an independent table or chair. We are fully insured though, so you have zero liability for us or our tools. Any work that does not fall under one of these legal umbrellas we either refer to a licensed contractor to work with or we need to turn down - we are not a good option for people looking to complete larger projects, such as structural improvements, remodeling, electrical, plumbing, roofing - those should be compleated by a licensed contractor of that specialty, many of which we know well and would be happy to put you in contact with.
Carpentry is where our value reaches it's pinacle, but we are also highly capable masons, welders, junk haulers, demolition experts, and to be honest we're pretty confident we could build just about anything given enough resources. If you're unsure if we'd be a good fit just let us know what you're facing using the intake form below, we'll be the first to tell you if it's not in our wheelhouse - we know what types of projects go well and which ones don't and we won't subject you or ourselves to anything unpleasant. If we don't end up being a good fit we always help point people in the right direction.
Timelines are fairly project and condition dependent, but overall CFD runs more efficient timelines than many of our 'competitors'. We have zero bureaucracy, get problems paired with solutions quickly, and love to execute. To give a concrete example, we have taken a consultation for a fence on Sunday, poured and set the posts on Monday, and compleated the fence Tuesday. That said, there are certain things like weather and material availability which we have no control over, but these are all things that we will communicate to you during your consultation if they might end up being pertinent. In our proposals we always provide a lower and upper threshold for your projects timeline.
